Hey South Beach! Business Directory

News Cafe

Mark Soyka opened News Cafe and its adjoining newsstand in 1988 on what was then a quiet stretch of Ocean Drive. Within a year, the café had become a South Beach landmark, drawing locals, tourists, and expatriates who would stop in to buy newspapers from their home countries and linger over breakfast. The fashion designer Gianni Versace was among its most famous regular visitors, walking to the café each morning from his Ocean Drive mansion.

News Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks in an Italian American style. The menu includes all-day breakfast, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The café brought European café culture to South Beach and has remained a gathering place at all hours, from early-morning coffee drinkers to afternoon beachgoers seeking a cold drink to late-night club patrons winding down.

Sitting right on Ocean Drive with views across the street to the beach, the café's scene shifts throughout the day and evening as different crowds cycle through. Locals, tourists, and neighborhood regulars all pass through these doors.
